Catlettsburg Elementary received a check for $5000.00 from the Sevierville Wal-Mart Super Store. Principal Jerry Wear, Assistant Principal Dr. Amy Case, and Librarian Dore Dumas were presented with a check from Wal-Mart Super Store Manager Chris Johnson. The funds will be used to purchase needed classroom computer equipment, items for the Coyote Store, and the students’ Christmas party. Mr. Wear stated, “The money is so helpful, but the support of the Wal-Mart employees was especially nice. Workers from the Sevierville store came to our school and worked over eight hours on Saturday. Some of them had worked the night shift and then reported to our school at 7:00 AM to help organize library books, plant flowers and shrubs around the school, and build shelves for our Coyote Store. Workers washed and dried all the donated clothes for our students. These clothes and other items are given as rewards for good citizenship, hard work and good deeds. While volunteering at our school, they filled one hundred sixty-four food bags to go home on weekends to feed children on Saturday and Sunday.”
On the Thursday preceding the Saturday “Work-a-Thon”, representatives of the Sevierville Wal-Mart met with the faculty of Catlettsburg Elementary after school. Everyone was treated to sandwiches, drinks, fruit and cake. In addition, each person received a goodie bag and a chance to win one of ten $100 gift certificates in a drawing. This was an additional one thousand dollars for our teachers to use to support our students.
“This program is beneficial to every public school, but it was a special blessing for the newest elementary school in Sevier County. The entire faculty is so appreciative,” said Wear.
The Coyote Store is open. Donations of toys, books, jewelry, games and gently worn clothes and shoes would be appreciated. These items are sold to students using their coyote dollars for good behavior, good work, good grades, helpfulness and attendance. Your help is needed.
